VETERAN’S AFFAIRS COMMISSION

REGULAR MEETING

March 5, 2012



1.      Call to Order: Bernie called the meeting to order at 7:05 pm.

2.      Roll Call:
                Present: Kirk Allison, Bernie Corona, Vincent Parys, J. Roger Pelletier, David Whalen, Paul Barry
        
                Absent: Dominic Fulco, Jr., Mary-Ann Roczynski, Linda Carrasquillo

3.      Approval of Minutes:
        -       February 6, 2012 –  Bernie stated that there was minor correction to the February minutes needed.  Vinny made a motion to accept the minutes with the correction, 2nd by Paul.  Motion carried.

4.      Old Business:
        -       Paul again passed around flyers on the Welcome Vietnam Veteran’s event to be held on March 31, 2012 at the State Armory, Broad Street in Hartford from 7pm-midnight.  Free for veterans, but cost for guest
                is $10.  For more info or to reserve tickets call (860) 832-2978.  Co-sponsored by the CCSU Veterans History Project and the CT Dept of Veterans Affairs.  
        -       Paul Barry also passed out information on Veterans Day at the Capitol.  Held at the LOB on March 13, 2012 from 9am-3pm.  Encouraged the Commissioners to come out and speak. To attend, please RSVP

5.      New Business:
        -       Bernie passed out miscellaneous information on veteran’s issues/benefits including MyHealtheVet, the VA’s online personal health record and the Iraq Star Foundation.
        -       The Commission discussed the Memorial Day Parade and possibility of getting a banner for display, who to dedicate the parade to, etc.  Matter tabled.
        -       Paul told the Commission about a service available the veterans.  The Military Support Program came and spoke to the Commission before about their services.  They are now offering 7-8 free psychiatric
                visits for veterans and family members who are having issues adjusting at home, suicidal thoughts, or just needing help.

6.      Adjournment – Vinny made a motion, seconded by Paul to adjourn the meeting.  Motion carried. The meeting adjourned at 7:35 p.m.


The next meeting will be April 9, 2012 in the Welling Conference Room, 2nd Fl, Town Hall.
